Luke
Keioskie was born and raised in Moura, Central
Queensland. After completing his secondary schooling,
Luke took up a position as a journalist for The
Central Telegraph, a weekly community newspaper
which taught him, amongst other things, that even
someone from a mining and farming town can be
something other than a miner or a farmer (not
that there's anything wrong with that).
|
|
 |
|
| He
went on to become a photojournalist for the Bundaberg
News-Mail, where he happily snapped photos of
surf girls and cane fires for a number of years
until one day, quite unexpectedly, he started writing
a book. Nine months later he finished it, which
Luke openly admits is the best feeling in the world
and the only reward a writer should seek. |
|
|
He
quit the newspaper and enrolled at the University
of the Sunshine Coast, figuring that if he was
going to study he may as well do it at the beach.
Under the tutelage of award winning children's
author Gary
Crew, Luke completed a Bachelor of Arts (Communication)
and a Bachelor of Arts (Honours), the thesis of
which he wrote while on the Greek island of Kefalonia.
He is currently completing a Doctor of Creative
Arts, the creative component of which is a prequel
to his first published novel, ROOM
ONE NINETEEN (Lothian Books, 2005) and
an exegesis examining a theoretical concept of
his own creation entitled REIMAGINATION.

Luke
is an avid speculative fiction writer and fan,
whose writing blends elements from the genres
of horror, fantasy and science fiction to produce
stories that show just how strange our world is
- or could be. His influences include Tim Powers,
Geoff Ryman and Shaun Tan.
He
is also an unofficial ambassador for Plain English,
a notion that he believes is an inevitable by-product
of our contemporary society, and that he hopes
will one day make it possible for him to understand
a publishing contract at first glance.
Luke
writes part time, wishes he could write full time,
and lectures at the University of the Sunshine
Coast to pay the bills. He is a typical Pisces
and teaches Creative Writing to whoever will listen.
