MVP
- MOST VALUABLE POTENTIAL was shortlisted
for Best Young Adult Book in the 2004 Queensland
Premier's Literary Awards, the judges describing
the novel as a 'sizzling and comically poignant
tale' and a 'darn good yarn that has you standing
up and cheering at the end'. Darren has recently
completed his third novel, THE
UMBILICAL WORD. It will be published in
2006.

Darren
is also Queensland Schools Co-ordinator for War
Child Australia, a volunteer, not-for-profit
organization dedicated to providing immediate,
effective and sustainable aid to children in war
zones. In his former life, he was HPE teacher
to the students of Milpera School - Australia's
only government-run school for migrants and refugees.
Milpera served as the backdrop for MVP and demonstrated
to Darren, on a daily basis, the true meaning
of 'most valuable potential'.
