ILLUSTRATOR

Mitch has been working as a freelance illustrator for over twenty years now, five of those based in London. She has worked in a variety of mediums, on a variety of jobs - anything from storyboards, posters, package design, colouring books, cartoons, editorial illustrations and paintings. We are glad she seems to have settled on pen and ink!

Mitch works in a rickety shed posing as a studio in the back yard of her home in Melbourne. While she works with a variety of mediums, including acrylic paint and watercolour, she is happiest with a good old-fashioned dip pen and Indian ink.

"All of my work is wonky and messy: I don't like drawing cars or anything too technical - I can't draw a straight line, even with a ruler," she says. Mitch is living proof that everyone can draw, and if you practice, it can take you far!

Mitch has illustrated an extensive list of children's books with many different publishers in Australia and around the world, and even illustrated a series of twelve Zodiac stamps for Australia Post which were released in 2007.

(To see the full list of books Mitch has put her pen to, check her website).

Mitch's recent books have been published through Black Dog Books.

Mitch often collaborates with her husband Danny Katz who is a writer and generally funny guy. Up until 2009 her cartoons  appeared with his Danny's weekly column in The Age (a column that lasted eleven years). As a creative duo, Danny and Mitch have created many children's books including The Little Lunch series.

Mitch has a lot to say about the process of collaborating on a book, and a fair number of funny stories to go with it!
