With
a background in Graphic Design, illustrator Marjory
Gardner has a bright and colourful style that
has brought pleasure to readers in Australia and
overseas.
Marjorys
school visits are a combination of education,
entertainment and inspiration for budding authors
and illustrators. Using her extensive folio of
work, she gives children an appreciation and understanding
of the stages of production of a picture book
from first sketchy roughs to finished art work
to final printed result. Questions are welcomed.

Workshop
sessions are hands-on, in which children carry
out a series if drawing exercises which are fun
and rewarding, regardless of ability level (even
for those who complain I cant draw!).
She
also discusses the role of the computer in graphic
design, the importance of meeting deadlines, and
how to negotiate a good contract. Her presentations
vary in content depending on the audience, be
it prep, primary or secondary level. |
|
Marjory
has also started writing for children. Her
most recent published works are Ruby
and the Diamond Ring, inspired by
her Jack Russell puppy Ruby, and My
Cat Muffin (Scholastic).
Some
of Marjorys titles include Playschool-the
Blue Book (ABC Books),
Old Mother Hubbard
(ABC Books), Wilbur the Weather Watcher
(Mimose), What Do You Want to Do?
(McGraw-Hill), Razzle Dazzle (Macmillan)
and Five Little Monkeys
(Scholastic).

Written by James Stead and illustrated by Marjory Gardner, Grandma's Place was published in October 2008.
"How does your Grandma cuddle you?" This is just one of the many questions a child will encounter when they experience Grandma's Place. Grandma's Place is an interactive picture book which encourages children to explore, and reflect upon the special bond they share with their Grandparents. On a visit to Grandma's place Jess experiences and creates memories that will last a lifetime. |

Marjory's latest book is published by Windy Hollow Books, and teacher's notes on Grandma's Place are available from their website, http://www.windyhollowbooks.com.au/

"Marjory
was wonderful and her art/illustrations
very joyful, playful and very much an extension
of her as a person. Her ideas/illustration
book/diary was very inspirational. She brought
