After completing a diploma in Graphic design
in 1987, Lorette travelled overseas and settled
in The Netherlands where she worked as a freelance
illustrator for eight years, for magazine, advertising
and packaging. She returned to Australia in 1996
and for the next two years concentrated on being
a mother to her two young children.

Based in Melbourne, her first book
BABY BEAR GOES TO THE ZOO (Lothian) became
a best-seller. It won the Crichton Award in 1999
and was also included in the CBC Clayton's Short
list 2000. The delightful sequel, BABY
BEAR GOES TO THE BEACH, has been released
recently (with more titles to follow, including
BABY BEAR GOES CAMPING).

Lorette's workshops show even very young students
the way she first plans out her book and matches
the text with her illustrations.
