| "I
was born in Swan Hill, Victoria. I spent my childhood
in country Victoria and Melbourne before moving
to Geelong at the age of 10. I lived in Geelong
until I went to university in Melbourne after secondary
school. I currently live in Melbourne with my wife
Wendy and my two daughters Celeste and Ruby. I've
worked as a drainer's labourer, a truck driver,
a bathroom accessories salesperson, an Internet
consultant, an Electronic Publisher, and a secondary
school teacher as well as working in a scrap metal
yard. |

"Over
forty of my short stories have appeared in Australia
and overseas in publications such as Overland
and the New South Wales School Magazine.
I write all sorts of stories, from comedy to horror
to serious drama of relationships - sometimes
all at the same time. I've written fourteen novels
for teenagers, too. I've been shortlisted three
times for the Aurealis Award for Speculative Fiction,
and have also been nominated for a Ditmar award
and shortlisted for a WAyBR award.

short stories have twice been featured in Gardner
Dozois' 'Highly Recommended' lists in The Year's
Best Science Fiction and The Year's Best Fantasy.
Three of my books have been CBC Notable Books.
I've also twice won the Best and Fairest Award
at West Brunswick Amateur Football Club."

enchanted by the magic of story. The primal need
in all of us to listen to or to tell stories is
one of the things that makes us human. Stories
help us learn, they help us construct meaning
in the face of a vast and sometimes baffling universe.
Stories entertain us, help us share in laughter
