LISA GIBBS

Author

Lisa Gibbs has been involved in all aspects of netball for over thirty years. She has played at A-Grade level and has done coaching and umpiring. Still playing competitive netball, she has co-written a series of novels with her sister Bernadette Hellard, relating their love for the game.

NETBALL OR NOTHING (Harper Collins) was Lisa and Bernadette's debut novel. It tells the story of Rachel and her ambition to make the rep team whilst keeping her mind off one blond-haired boy and some less than friendly team mates.

NETBALL MISSION revisits Rachel's dreams of climbing the competitive ladders of netball. Tragedy strikes a close friend's family and she must come to terms with grief within herself and her friends. NETBALL MAIL sees Rachel compromise her netball career in support of her love for her boyfriend, Daniel.

The entire series has been very popular, reflecting the amazingly large appeal of netball throughout Australia.

But besides writing fiction about netball life, Lisa is studying a PHD in Health and Behaivoural Sciences. Specifically, Lisa is looking into men's access to chronic illness self-management programs which sees her conducting a literature review in masculinity, in-depth interviewing of men and their partners and the assistance of community organisations to increase their program's accessibility to men.

Lisa has also worked as a community services consultant, held positions in Arthritis Victoria, WorkCover Authority and the Deaf-Blind Care Association.
