AUTHOR

Lee Fox is the author of bestselling children’s book, ELLA KAZOO WILL NOT BRUSH HER HAIR, illustrated by Cathy Wilcox (Lothian, 2006). Lee has written a new series of children’s books to be illustrated by Mitch Vane. The first of these, JASPER MCFLEA WILL NOT EAT HIS TEA, will be published in May 2009. Like Ella Kazoo this story deals with difficult childhood behaviour in a fun and entertaining way.

HUSH SAYS THE SEASHORE is a counting backwards from ten picture book and is due for publication in 2009. The illustrator for this book is Shane McG.

Lee’s Young Adult novel, OTHER PEOPLE'S COUNTRY, was published in March 2008 and is set on a remote Aboriginal community somewhere in central Australia.

Lee’s writing career began in 2000, with several articles for The Age. She was also a student of the Professional Writing and Editing course at RMIT. Before becoming a writer, Lee was a production assistant for a commercial radio station, a cook in a childcare centre and the store manager on a remote Aboriginal community – and she has five children. Lee lives in Central Victoria with her partner and youngest child.

“Lee Fox's session on Ella Kazoo is one of the most professional and well-crafted author sessions I have seen in decades. In the tradition of the best trade texts for younger children Lee combines a carefully honed story packed with subtle layers of literacy teaching. If you are wanting to build your students' vocabulary, enthuse them about being word watchers and gift them some achievable goals as readers and writers then Lee's is the author visit for your school.”
- Sarah Mayor Cox, Lecturer, Literacy Education, School of Education, Latrobe University, Bendigo.

“The children were very excited about your visit and were eager to enjoy the book and your presentation. The way it was presented in short segments really held their attention. The entertainment and educational/VELS value were very good as was your rapport with the students. Thank you for coming to our school and sharing your experiences.”
- Castlemaine Primary School

“Other People’s Country will, I believe, become a great teaching tool. Firstly, it is real. I also believe it should become compulsory reading for all secondary schools – because of the great writing, the character development, the engagement and as a wonderful discussion starter. I have recommended this book to the Federal Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Education Committee as a resource for secondary schools and the Literacy Network LAECG”.
- Julie McHale, primary/middle school teacher, Castlemaine.

“In her book, Lee takes us down a path that is sometimes difficult, often frightening and shows us a place that many of us know little about. And then forces us to ask ourselves, how is it that we can know so little about this place that is the country that we live in and the people whose land we have taken? Perhaps the children, who this book is intended for, will be braver than us and when it is their time, make the changes that are needed through understanding and compassion. The understanding and compassion that comes through having read books like Lee Fox’s Other People’s Country when they were young.”
- Sally Rippin Children’s Author/Illustrator
