At the age of 24, Kirsten Murphy has been quick
to have her first novel published. Called, RAINCHECK
ON TIMBUKTU (Penguin) Kirsten captures
the voice of Lucy, a teenager all too ready to
skip teenage life and go straight to her twenties.
Her writing is a humorous approach to teenagers
coming to grips with life, love and growing up.

After travelling and studying overseas, she came
back to Melbourne to complete her Bachelor of
Arts (Professional Writing). She is currently
studying screenwriting at RMIT and intends to
one day write for television. Kirsten was a guest
at 2001's Melbourne Writers' Festival and spoke
to an excellent reception at Booked Out's 2002
International Women's Day forum.

"Kirsten was delightful!
Her talk was appropriately targeted and covered
the relevant things - development as a writer,
publishing process and a reading from her book.
The students enjoyed it immensely and responded
really well to the humour in the text. She's a
great role model for our young writers!"
- Jenny Sargeant, Toorak College
