AUTHOR

Joanne Horniman grew up in a country town in northern NSW. She read books, rode her bicycle around the countryside, and had a glove puppet theatre company with her best friend. They 'toured' their show to all the classes in the school.

On leaving school, Joanne went to Sydney, completed an arts degree and worked as an editor after a stint washing dishes in a pub. Then she moved back to the north coast with her partner and produced a series of mostly satirical posters that are now in the collection of the Australian National Gallery. Since then she has worked as a teacher at TAFE and university, and she now lives with her family on a small acreage in the bush, where she plants rainforest trees and looks after a trio of chooks and a duo of ducks.

Joanne Horniman has written numerous books for children and young adults, including the award-winning MAHALIA; and her most recent book is SECRET SCRIBBLED NOTEBOOKS.

Joanne has taught writing to a range of people: at workshops in Primary and Secondary schools, and with Nestle Write Around Australia; to adult literacy students at TAFE, and to adults and trainee teachers at University.
