James actually started his first novel at fifteen, for his VCE English assignment. This was interrupted by university, where James went on to study Architecture, and then English Literature, eventually graduating with a Master of Arts in Writing. During his masters degree James further developed the idea that would become his first published book, and would lead to seeing his novels in print.
James now tutors in that same Master of Arts course and in 2006 he was awarded Swinburne's SUPRA scholarship to study his PhD in Writing over three years.
His non-fiction author interview book, LITERATI: AUSTRALIAN CONTEMPORARY LITERARY FIGURES DISCUSS FEAR, FRUSTRATIONS AND FAME was published by John Wiley & Sons to rave reviews in August 2005. It included interviews with such well known authors as John Marsden, Andy Griffiths and Sonya Hartnett. |
Hachette Australia published FOX HUNT in August 2006, introducing an exciting new series of contemporary thrillers featuring ex-Navy protaganist, Lachlan Fox. PATRIOT ACT, the explosive second book in the Fox series, will be published in August 2007.
As part of the research for his books, James consults
several active and retired members of the Australian Defence Force, including members serving in
the Special Forces. James draws on the experience of many journalists to add credence to Lachlan
Fox and his best friend Alister Gammaldi, who work as New York based investigative journalists.
