AUTHOR

Isobelle Carmody has received critical acclaim for her diverse talents as a consummate and much-loved storyteller. With a host of award-winning novels to her credit, she is one of Australia’s most highly regarded and prominent authors of fantasy for young adult readers. Several of her books have also been published to great acclaim in the US and UK.

She began writing the first book of The Obernewton Chronicles when she was just fourteen years old, and then went on to complete a Bachelor of Arts and journalism cadetship. Obernewton was shortlisted for the 1988 CBC Australian Book of the Year Award, and since then her profile has grown dramatically. The sequel, The Farseekers, was an Honour Book in the 1991 CBC Awards. It was followed by Ashling and The Keeping Place, both of which increased her band of loyal readers.

Scatterlings won the Talking Book of the Year Award in 1992 and The Gathering was joint winner of the thirtieth Children’s Peace Literature Prize and also won the 1994 CBC Australian Book of the year.

Isobelle’s other books include Green Monkey Dreams, Greylands, and Darkfall. Her next book, The Night Gate is the first of The Gateway Trilogy and will be published in July 2000.

During recent years Isobelle received a grant from the Australia Council Literature Board to reside at the Keesing Writers’ Studio in Paris for six months and she has toured outback Australia visiting schools in remote areas. She has spent much of the last two years living in Prague. When in Australia she regularly visits schools as a public speaker, lectures and passionately promotes her books to her readers.

Isobelle's latest offering is THE LEGEND OF LITTLE FUR series which she has also illustrated herself. The series so far includes LITTLE FUR and A FOX CALLED SORROW with 2 more titles soon to follow.
