IAN FORSS

ILLUSTRATOR

Ian studied at Caufield Institute for a diploma of Graphic Design, taught illustration in 3rd year by Ron Brooks (illustrator of the acclaimed story FOX). Ian then completed a Post Gradue Animation course at Swinburne University.

Following study, Ian worked as a freelance Illlustrator and Animator, and was involved in the film s that were part of the ABC KABOODLE series. Hen then started work full time in television at Channel 9 as the courtroom artists and on programs such as THE OSSIE OSTRICH VIDEO SHOW. During this time Ian continued to freelance and eventually left television to illustrate books fulltime.

Over a 20 year period Ian has illustrated hundreds of books, many being for the educational market in Australia, America and Europe.


Since then Ian has been involved in book series such as SUPA DOOPERS (SNOW BRIGHT AND THE SEVEN SUMOS), LITTLE RIPPERS, BOOK WEB AND THE COCKY CIRCLE BOOKS. Some of Ian's earlier picture books include THE SEESAW and THE LITTLE DINOSAUR as well as HORSES HICCUPS and THE BUN for America.

Also THE AUSTRALIAN HISTORY COLLECTION introduced by Bryce Courtney. Some of the authors Ian has illustrated books for include: Meredith Costain, Jen McVeity, Wendy Graham and Margaret Wild.

Ian has been a guest speaker at Primary schools and Libraries. He can speak on:
- the process of illustrating a book
- reading the manuscript
- roughs to the finished art
- the end product
- drawing cartoons
- interactive student workshops
