Having
been a keen writer since his own late secondary
school days, Archie saw the need in schools for
stories that resonated with the lives of his students
and so wrote his first novel SPARRING
WITH SHADOWS in direct response to this.
An immediate success with critics and readers, the
novel gave Archie the chance to foster his dream
of writing fulltime, something he now does alongside
running writers workshops, teacher PD sessions,
and talks and seminars in schools and universities
all around Australia. |

Following
the success of his first novel Archie wrote the
widely acclaimed YA novel THE
DONS, winner of the
2002 Family Therapist Awards, following that up
with AN EARFUL OF STATIC,
and BRUISES: BOYS DON'T CRY.

"Archie was excellent. He very effectively engaged the students and encouraged them with their writing. He communicated well and had useful exercises to give the students practical involvement."
- Phil Turland, Donvale Christian College.
"Archie
Fusillo is a great role model for young men keen to
explore their writing. He is articulate, engaging, confronting
and real. His writing is fresh, his humour touching.
And for the boys at St Joseph's, personal contact with
this award-winning author encouraged them to reach out,
searching for his response to their creative efforts."
- St Joseph's College, Hunters
Hill.
"We
thank you so much for your wonderful presentation and
I think you saw for yourself how warmly you were accepted
by the students and the way they responded to what you
said. I am the ESL teacher here...I was thrilled with
their writing and the fact that they connected with
what you were saying."
- Vivien
Freadman, Mullauna College
"Overwhelmingly
positive, students were spellbound, positive role model,
perfectly weighted humour."
- Jan Smith, Box Forest Secondary College
"Archie
is a true professional. His talk was humourous, inspirational,
informative and engaging. Staff and students were most
impressed with the standard - both in the delivery and
the content of the talk."
- Susan Robertson, De La Salle College
"Archie
Fusillo was thoroughly entertaining and stimulating
- he was terrific! Ive never seen our Year 9 students,
many of whom are very difficult, so engaged by a presenter.
All teachers and the Library staff were very complimentary
about him. As KLA Co-ordinator, Im looking forward
to the student writing that will flow on from today."
- Kim Stewart, Cranbourne Secondary College |
