AUTHOR / ILLUSTRATOR

Anna Ciddor has always been fascinated by the question, "What if I lived in another time or another place?" This question has driven her to research and write books on a huge variety of different subjects - from toilets to travel, from Viking Norway to the Australian goldrush.

Teachers and librarians will be familiar with Anna as a versatile author of more than 45 non-fiction works including TAKE ME BACK and the impressive AUSTRALIA IN THE TWENTIETH CENTURY series. The VIKING MAGIC series was Anna's debut as a writer of popular fiction.

RUNESTONE is the first book in the series. The adventures and magic of Runestone are set in a thoroughly researched, historically accurate world. Old Viking lifestyle and beliefs, and the real flora and fauna of rural Norway are the backdrop to Oddo and Thora's exciting adventures. WOLFSPELL and STORMRIDERS are the subsequent novels in the series.

In 2005, Anna received a New Work grant by the Literature Board of the Australia Council and contributed to KIDS' NIGHT IN 2, a collection of stories by various authors with all proceeds going to War Child. She is currently working on a book set in ancient Ireland and will publish a QUENTARIS novel later in 2006.

Anna's speciality is to tailor talks and workshops to match with your school curriculum. Presentations are varied to cater for all age groups.

Anna is a vibrant speaker and her talks are stimulating and fun. Students respond with great enthusiasm while teachers appreciate the little hints and advice that apply to the students' own work!

WORKSHOPS WITH A TOUCH OF MAGIC

In these workshops, Anna reveals the secrets behind the making of the Viking Magic series, demonstrates how she does illustrations, and shows her audience how to make their own magic runestones!

SHOW AND TELL SESSIONS

For these sessions, Anna draws on material from many of the varied books she has written and illustrated. Students see original mock-up books shown to publishers, original artwork, demonstrations of illustrating techniques, rough drafts, articles and material used for research, research notes, samples of the various stages of book production, and the costumes worn by the children on the cover of Runestone (members of the audience can try these on).

HANDS-ON WORKSHOPS

These vary from illustrating, writing or poetry workshops to history alive workshops that re-enact activities from the past. Students get involved with such diverse activities as dressing up, role play, Colonial games, experimenting with illustrating techniques, making their own books, learning unusual skills, and even food tasting - whatever is appropriate to the theme you have chosen!
