One writer to cover:

-TALKS - WORKSHOPS - STAFF PD - PARENT EVENINGS-

More and more schools are choosing to host a writer-in-residence program. By extending an author visit, your school gains the flexibility to offer a program tailored to your students' needs. Talks can be followed up with class-size workshops, even smaller consultations with literature groups. This opportunity increases the potential for students to improve on existing pieces while extending their writing skills and developing their own personal style.

From visits of one day a week over a month, to those condensed into a single week, residencies are an effective way of maximising the contact time students have with an author. Most authors can talk to all year levels, staff and parents at any time of year and work in conjunction with each school from the planning stages. Booked Out has a selection of interstate authors to choose from and we are happy to provide recent reedback from schools which have run successful residency programs. Also available are poet, illustrator and artist-in-resident programs.

Following is a list of authors Booked Out recommends for such residency programs. They are available for bookings anywhere in Australia. For your convenience we have noted where they live as generally, though not always, travel costs need to be covered by the host school. For information on the authors, please click on their names to view their profile and for further details on costs and availability, please contact us and we will be happy to answer even the most preliminary of enquiries.

Feedback from schools who have had residency programs:

"Michael (Bauer)'s visit was nothing short of brilliant! He was great from word go - easy to contact and willing to discuss our specific needs and wishes. His talks with the students were great...His workshops were great..."
-Rockhampton Grammar School.

"I cannot overstate the immediate impact Archie (Fusillo)'s residency with us had. If you can get hold of him, I would thoroughly recommend Archie as a tool to add some life to your students' desire to read."
-Stanthorpe SHS, Southern QLD.

"Both writers (Meme McDonald & Sonia Orchard) were well prepared and their life stories captivated the girls' minds. Workshops were highly practical/ appropriately paced and staged. Very productive output from students...Staff have fresh inspirations for their own classes."
-Mater Christi College, Melbourne.

"Thank you for recommending Tony (Eaton). He was the perfect writer-in-residence for our school. He was approachable and very giving to both staff and students...The students were inspired and the teachers felt he hit just the right note. His real life experience and rapport with the boys made the sessions very enjoyable and highly valuable."
-Ignatius Park College, Townsville.

"From a staff perspective, having hosted Mark (Svendsen) at my home prior to the camp, he was a pleasure to visit with and have. Mark was a fantastic presenter to use for a Writers' Camp and I would recommend him to any school wishing to run a similar extension. Mark developed a great rapport with our staff and students...This was evident in both the written product and conversation at meal times and in session. The boys particularly, enjoyed his sense of humour and play with poetic verse and prose."
-Bileola SHS, QLD.

"Fantastic series of sessions...They found (Bernie Monagle)'s voice authentic and realistic. Inspired to write their stories, our boys have been at creative work ever since he left."
-Melbourne Grammar School.
