RECORD BREAKING POLAR ADVENTURER
ANTARCTIC EXPERT

In December 2003, Matt McFadyen was the youngest of a crew of five like minded individuals who set sail aboard a 43ft yacht from Sydney Harbour bound for Commonwealth Bay Antarctica – the home of Sir Douglas Mawson’s Hut – the last great relic from the heroic era of Australian Antarctic Exploration.

Having returned successfully from this epic voyage Matt is now available to speak about his Antarctic Experiences. Matt’s 90 min presentation is based around the Stage 3 Unit of work titled Antarctica and it can be tailored to suit the specific needs of your students.

Some of the topics that may be included in my presentation are:

-Matt’s personal journey

-The voyage across the Southern Ocean

-Different parallels of latitude crossed

-Icebergs

-The Antarctic Environment – including seasonal changes

-Personal difficulties encountered

-Mawson’s Hut as a heritage site

-Wildlife

-Global Interaction including tourism, mining and pollution

Matt’s presentation also includes a large array of digital photos and video footage of Antarctica including spectacular icebergs, the Antarctic Coastline, wildlife, Mawson’s Hut and the surrounding areas of Commonwealth Bay.

This is an opportunity for your students to interact and question an actual Antarctic explorer and to observe specialised equipment used in the Antarctic.  Matt’s presentations are interesting, motivational and highly educational.
